Balansa Clover

Balansa clover is a low-growing, spreading plant that can reach up to 3 feet in height under ideal conditions. It produces fine stems with pinkish-white flowers. It is highly adaptable to a wide range of soils, including heavy clays and light sandy soils. Balansa clover is also tolerant of waterlogged conditions, making it suitable for areas with poor drainage, as well as tolerant to drought. It can survive temperatures as low as -15°F (-26°C) when established, persisting well for 1-2 years and can self-seed. Like other legumes, Balansa clover fixes atmospheric nitrogen, which enriches the soil and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers. This combination provides stability, efficient nutrient uptake, and the ability to penetrate compacted soil layers. It provides high-quality forage for livestock, with good protein levels and palatability. Balansa clover is an excellent cover crop for weed suppression, erosion control, and improving soil health.
